Half Nelson Box Office
Half Nelson is a drama that follows the story of a teacher who is a drug addict and his friendship with one of his students. Dan, the teacher, and Drey, the student, try to save each other from a drug habit in the first case and following in bad footsteps as a drug seller in the second. Although the two cannot find the strength to save themselves, the tension in the Half Nelson movie is created by the dynamics between the two characters and their efforts to save one another.
The plot of the movie Half Nelson shows that it is rather different from any other type of movies. It is realistic and one may expect that its box office success is not that surprising. According to the producers, Ryan Fleck and Anne Boden, it had already been very difficult to raise the budget need to produce the Half Nelson movie. They had first made a sample feature which was supposed to help them gather the financiers needed to progress with the larger project. However, this did not happen for the next year and a half.
The estimated budget of the movie was in the end $700,000. As mentioned above, this movie is hardly a best seller because the story that it tells is not attractive to many people. From reasons that are obvious most individuals would go to the cinema to watch a comedy or a funny movie that would make them forget about their daily routine. Yet, Half Nelson was not such a movie but this does not mean that its story was not worth seeing or telling. The film was given a limited release opening in two theaters and it is estimated that it took $54,000 in its opening weekend. In North America the Half Nelson Box Office was grossed $2,697,938 and internationally $1,962,543.
